What Inspires Us: Gorgeous Ammonite Fossil

At Stratta, the Tile Boutique, we are constantly inspired by the world around us. Nature often presents us with gifts that are more beautiful than anything we could hope to create. That’s why Stratta is committed to sustainable design, “green” design strategies, and renewable resources.

Case in point: check out this stunning close-up photograph of a multi-colored ammonite. Ammonite is the scientific term for “those beautiful ribbed spiral fossil thingies” – but whatever you call them, they are absolutely breathtaking up close.

(You can find more beautiful inspiration like this on Stratta’s Pinterest page!)

Did you know that ammonites are ancient cephalopods, which means they are distant relatives of the octopus and squid? Pretty cool. Ammonites serve as design inspiration for all kinds of tile and interior design projects: glass tile, stone tile, mosaics, and even tile and other surfaces made from fossilized remains and ammonites themselves!

Who better to inspire us as we start a new week at work than a three-time Olympic champion? Gail Devers won three gold medals for the United States in track & field across two different Summer Olympic Games – gold in the 100m at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and gold in both the 100m and 4x100m relay at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Devers was also a 5-time world champion and 4-time indoor world champion in sprints, relays and hurdles. As one of the most decorated track & field athletes (and Olympians) in American history, Gail Devers serves as an inspiration to us all when it comes to motivation, perseverance and athletic achievement.

Want to see how Gail Devers’ quote inspires one of America’s best tile and interior designers? Click here for more on Stratta, the Tile Boutique!

We love one of Gail Devers’ most famous quotes, when it comes to accomplishment. See for yourself:

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” Amen to that. How will YOU begin to try this week? Let’s all stay inspired, and amazing things will happen.

“Mad Men” Inspired Room Design: Final Season Tribute

Whatever your opinion is of the hit series “Mad Men” as it enters its final season, one thing is certain: the style and design of the show has had a profound impact on how we view the world.

This fact resonates loudly when it comes to interior design. The set designs and pieces used in “Mad Men” have been imitated, drawn from, and often downright copied in current interior design trends.

It all comes together in this week’s artistic inspiration from Stratta, the Tile Boutique: this photo-friendly article from House Beautiful, showcasing a 1960s town house decked out in such “Mad Men” style, it would make Don Draper proud.

Our Favorite Music To Listen To At Work

At Stratta, the Tile Boutique, we’re constantly drawing on various sources for artistic inspiration. From artists to sculptors, designers to filmmakers and directors, we love pulling from the past and the present to inspire the tile design and art we create for the future.

It goes without saying, then, that we love listening to music at work. From the upbeat to thought-provoking, classic rock to progressive soul, we listen to as many different artists (and types of music) as we can to draw inspiration from as many sources and angles as we can. Still, there are always a few favorite bands and musicians that we return to all the time.

Who’s your favorite musician/band to listen to at work for inspiration? Leave a comment!

Here’s a list of 5 of our favorite bands, artists and singers we listen to for inspiration at work.

5 Musical Artists That Inspire Us At Work

1. Bruce Springsteen.

We’re Jersey girls, so we have to pay tribute to The Boss. For decades, Bruce Springsteen has provided the soundtrack for what it means to live and work in New Jersey. Through good times and bad, highs and lows, the Boss and the E Street Band are always there for us.

Where do we start with Bruce Springsteen’s music? The politically driven “Nebraska” album? “Born in the USA”? His resurgence in the 2000s with “The Rising”? Whether you like the pop-rock classics like “Rosalita” and “Dancing in the Dark” or the sprawling epics like “Jungleland” and “Thunder Road”, The Boss is the voice of an East Coast generation.

We love The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.

2. Prince.

If you want to talk artistry and creativity in music, you can’t do much better than Prince. In a career that spans 5 different decades, Prince’s artistry, progressive musicality and evocative lyrics always inspire our staff to look to the future, try new things, and be inventive.

Make no mistake, “Purple Rain” is one of the greatest pop and R&B albums of all time. But if you don’t know anything else by Prince, you’re missing out on a lifetime of great work. From the pop goodness of the “1999” album to the underrated “Planet Earth” album from 2007, Prince is constantly reinventing himself – and R&B music – for our benefit.

3. Journey.

We’re all about positive energy at Stratta, the Tile Boutique, and nothing gets us in a better mood than the arena rockin’ positive energy of Journey.

From “Don’t Stop Believin'” to “Any Way You Want It”, Steve Perry’s voice backed by huge guitar solos and incredible harmonies always gets us ready to start the day.

You should listen to Nina Simone for inspiration.

4. Bob Marley and the Wailers.

On a rainy day at work, nothing brings a little sunshine into our office than putting on Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Having a tough day at the office? Put on “Three Little Birds”, and let Bob tell you that “Every little thing’s gonna be all right”. Worried about the future? A little “Sun is Shining” should put you in a better mood. And if you’re not sure if your art is going to be accepted, relax and let “Could You Be Loved” bring you confidence.

5. Nina Simone.

Our “outside the box” pick for musical inspiration is none other than the chanteuse Nina Simone. Simply calling Nina a gospel and standards singer desperately undervalues her contributions to the music industry. Her artistry has influenced generations of artists across multiple genres – everyone from Van Morrison to Lauryn Hill, Peter Gabriel to Alicia Keys.

From “Sinner Man” to “Feeling Good”, “My Baby Just Cares For Me” to “Lilac Wine”, you owe it to yourself to dive into the sounds of Nina Simone and get inspired – just like she inspires us.

Can we get an “amen” to this?

Thank you to the beautiful, brilliant, groundbreaking Maya Angelou for this quote about creativity which we live and work by.

We could say we posted this quote because it’s Black History Month in America. We could say it’s because Maya Angelou is an inspiration to women everywhere for her courage, clear voice and artistic achievements. We could even say it’s because we like the typeface of the quote on its turquoise background.

But really, we posted this because it’s a great quote. And it provides us a source of constant inspiration for us here at Stratta, The Tile Boutique. We hope it does the same for you.

Leave a comment and tell us what this Maya Angelou creativity quote means to you!
