Care & Maintenance

Tile is virtually maintenance free and is the easiest type of flooring to maintain. However, there are some things to keep in mind when caring for your tile to keep it shining and beautiful. Each type of tile is a bit different with regard to maintaining it and the cleaning products to be used. Regardless of the type of tile:

Always remember to sweep & vacuum floors prior to cleaning to remove dirt and debris.

Avoid using abrasive cleaners at all costs & the cleaners that you choose should never contain acids ,bleach or ammonia. Acid cleaners can damage the grout & the glazed surface of your tile, while ammonia can discolor your grout.

Always test in a small inconspicuous area when trying a new cleaner to ensure compatibility.

Depending on the tile you selected, here are a few guidelines about the care & maintenance for your specific kind of tile:

Ceramic Tile: Ceramic tile requires practically no maintenance at all, just warm water and mopping . Make sure to change the water frequently as to avoid  reintroducing the dirt  back onto your tile. Then let the tile dry by itself to increase the shine. If you would like to use a cleaner instead of just warm water, any regular store bought tile cleaner will be fine. Remember to rinse with clean water to remove any cleaning product residue.

Porcelain Tile:  Damp mop the porcelain tile after sweeping the dirt away or use a sponge if your tile is on the wall. You can use a commercial tile cleaner, but a simple solution of one cup white distilled vinegar in one gallon of hot water and a teaspoon of dish soap works just as well.  Remember to rinse with clean water to remove any residue.

Stone Tile: Stone tile requires special cleaners in order to avoid scratching or dulling. Since stone tile can scratch easily, make sure to vacuum and mop often. Use a specialty cleaner made specific for stone cleaning and  follow the instructions located on the back of the cleaner. If a specialty cleaner is  unavailable to you, use a mild dish soap such as Palmolive diluted with water and a mop. Remember to rinse with clean water to remove any cleaning product residue.

Glass Tile: Use a soft microfiber towel or cloth to wipe the tile, use any nonabrasive cleaner recommended for glass and follow the instructions.

Metal Tile/Metal Accent tile: Clean using a liquid non abrasive household cleaner. Never use scouring pads, steel wool, sandpaper or other abrasive products on metal tile as they will scratch the surface.

Stratta will carry various cleaners for all your tile needs.
