EcoDomo: Sustainable Leather Tile

Stratta, the Tile Boutique is committed to keeping an eye on the future of tile design – in terms of both artistic inspiration and sustainable “green” tile solutions.

For both of these reasons, we’re proud to feature EcoDomo products in our beautiful Wyckoff, NJ tile showroom. From the EcoDomo website:

EcoDomo LLC develops, manufactures and designs true sustainable luxurious architectural details. EcoDomo was initiated in 2005 in response to the need for high-end ecological and renewable products.

We love EcoDomo in so many ways. They’ve been part of the US Green Building Council for nearly a decade. They use gorgeous, aged and recycled leather to create unique and stunning tile.

EcoDomo has been featured in numerous publications and media outlets, including CNN, HGTV, the Chicago Tribune, Esquire and Architectural Digest. They were also named 2006 Product of the Year by Environmental Design and Construction Magazine, and are recipients of 2011 and 2013 Platinum Adex Awards.

So why not visit Stratta’s showroom and ask about EcoDomo products? You can get the same sustainable leather tile used by such companies as Starbucks, Marriott, InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, and Whole Foods – in your home or office! Fill out the contact form below for more information!

Our Favorite Music To Listen To At Work

At Stratta, the Tile Boutique, we’re constantly drawing on various sources for artistic inspiration. From artists to sculptors, designers to filmmakers and directors, we love pulling from the past and the present to inspire the tile design and art we create for the future.

It goes without saying, then, that we love listening to music at work. From the upbeat to thought-provoking, classic rock to progressive soul, we listen to as many different artists (and types of music) as we can to draw inspiration from as many sources and angles as we can. Still, there are always a few favorite bands and musicians that we return to all the time.

Who’s your favorite musician/band to listen to at work for inspiration? Leave a comment!

Here’s a list of 5 of our favorite bands, artists and singers we listen to for inspiration at work.

5 Musical Artists That Inspire Us At Work

1. Bruce Springsteen.

We’re Jersey girls, so we have to pay tribute to The Boss. For decades, Bruce Springsteen has provided the soundtrack for what it means to live and work in New Jersey. Through good times and bad, highs and lows, the Boss and the E Street Band are always there for us.

Where do we start with Bruce Springsteen’s music? The politically driven “Nebraska” album? “Born in the USA”? His resurgence in the 2000s with “The Rising”? Whether you like the pop-rock classics like “Rosalita” and “Dancing in the Dark” or the sprawling epics like “Jungleland” and “Thunder Road”, The Boss is the voice of an East Coast generation.

We love The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.

2. Prince.

If you want to talk artistry and creativity in music, you can’t do much better than Prince. In a career that spans 5 different decades, Prince’s artistry, progressive musicality and evocative lyrics always inspire our staff to look to the future, try new things, and be inventive.

Make no mistake, “Purple Rain” is one of the greatest pop and R&B albums of all time. But if you don’t know anything else by Prince, you’re missing out on a lifetime of great work. From the pop goodness of the “1999” album to the underrated “Planet Earth” album from 2007, Prince is constantly reinventing himself – and R&B music – for our benefit.

3. Journey.

We’re all about positive energy at Stratta, the Tile Boutique, and nothing gets us in a better mood than the arena rockin’ positive energy of Journey.

From “Don’t Stop Believin'” to “Any Way You Want It”, Steve Perry’s voice backed by huge guitar solos and incredible harmonies always gets us ready to start the day.

You should listen to Nina Simone for inspiration.

4. Bob Marley and the Wailers.

On a rainy day at work, nothing brings a little sunshine into our office than putting on Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Having a tough day at the office? Put on “Three Little Birds”, and let Bob tell you that “Every little thing’s gonna be all right”. Worried about the future? A little “Sun is Shining” should put you in a better mood. And if you’re not sure if your art is going to be accepted, relax and let “Could You Be Loved” bring you confidence.

5. Nina Simone.

Our “outside the box” pick for musical inspiration is none other than the chanteuse Nina Simone. Simply calling Nina a gospel and standards singer desperately undervalues her contributions to the music industry. Her artistry has influenced generations of artists across multiple genres – everyone from Van Morrison to Lauryn Hill, Peter Gabriel to Alicia Keys.

From “Sinner Man” to “Feeling Good”, “My Baby Just Cares For Me” to “Lilac Wine”, you owe it to yourself to dive into the sounds of Nina Simone and get inspired – just like she inspires us.

Thank you to the beautiful, brilliant, groundbreaking Maya Angelou for this quote about creativity which we live and work by.

We could say we posted this quote because it’s Black History Month in America. We could say it’s because Maya Angelou is an inspiration to women everywhere for her courage, clear voice and artistic achievements. We could even say it’s because we like the typeface of the quote on its turquoise background.

But really, we posted this because it’s a great quote. And it provides us a source of constant inspiration for us here at Stratta, The Tile Boutique. We hope it does the same for you.

This month, we’re thrilled to highlight our relationship with Walker Zanger. For more than 60 years, the name Walker Zanger has simply meant the very best in tile, marble and stone. One look at their motto is all it takes to understand what this company is all about:

“Human artistry. Enduring craftsmanship. Exceptional service.”

So what do we love about Walker Zanger (besides the fact that they also have very cool blog)? It’s simple – to provide the best, we have to work with the best. And much like our other suppliers (New Ravenna Mosaics, Stone Impressions, EcoDomo, etc.), Walker Zanger has a legacy of producing nothing less than the finest tile, marble and stone products available. We’ve used Walker Zanger products in countless interior design and tile design projects, and our clients often gravitate to their designs when visiting Stratta’s awesome boutique showroom in Wyckoff, NJ.

From Walker Zanger’s website:

“Walker Zanger has been engaged in this tradition for more than 60 years, offering our clients prized marble and stone from quarries throughout the world, each individually selected and evaluated by our experienced stone masters.

This human connection is the bedrock of our company: the relationships with families who have worked the quarries for generations, the fathers and sons who hand down the intricate knowledge required to select and judge stone, who work each day in the quarries and block yards, hand selecting the perfect block, the most beautiful slab, the finest tiles. This emphasis on quality and relationships has guided our family business and become the touchstone for Walker Zanger’s growth as the world’s leading luxury brand in the stone and tile industry.”

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Whether you’re snowboard in the northeast United States, soaking in the 60-degree weather on the Gulf of Mexico, or enjoying a warm rain in Sydney, Stratta (the Tile Boutique) hopes the Valentine’s Day weekend of 2014 has been one of your most memorable ones yet.

We’ve been bringing you some of the people, places and things we love on Valentine’s Day in 2014 – from TV shows to tile designers, there’s always something new (or classic) to love and be inspired by.

At Stratta, the Tile Boutique, we take pride in blending the latest in tile with artistic inspiration and concepts – creating an interior design masterpiece for you and those you love. With that in mind, our latest Valentine’s Day homage is to the artists from whom we draw constant inspiration.

So here’s what we love on Valentine’s Day 2014: Artists Edition!

What Stratta’s Staff Loves on Valentine’s Day: Favorite Artists

At Stratta, the Tile Boutique, we’re all about providing the highest quality tile and transforming your living space into a masterpiece. But as busy as we are, even we need a little down time. And sometimes, there’s no better place to unwind than in front of the TV.

For Valentine’s Day 2014, the staff at Stratta thought we’d share some things that we love the most. We’re kicking off our “What We Love on Valentine’s Day” articles for 2014 with our favorite TV shows. From zombies to legal drama to quirky girls and their friends, here are 5 TV shows we absolutely love right now:

What We Love on Valentine’s Day: TV Shows

1. Scandal. Don’t judge us. It’s not exactly highbrow television. But who doesn’t love a good scandal now and again? And no show on TV does intrigue and personal drama better than Scandal right now. In its third season, we absolutely love Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) and her crisis management firm as she struggles to manage the private lives of public figures – as well as her own past.

And how can you not love the series regulars and co-stars that Scandal brings in? From Joshua Malina to Lisa Kudrow, the cast of Scandal is a revolving crew of big TV names that keep reeling us in for more.

2. The Walking Dead. Don’t think that we’re weird – this Valentine’s Day, we have a HUGE crush on zombies. Well, not so much the zombies themselves as watching the crew of The Walking Dead find new and imaginative ways to kill them off in hordes and figure out how to survive.

The one gripe we’ve consistently had with the show is simple: we have no idea which character we like best! Is it series lead Rick Grimes? Is it the temperamental anti-hero Daryl Dixon (played by the awesome Norman Reedus)? Some of us give a vote to newcomer Sasha – but will she survive?

3. New Girl. Yep, pretty much the polar opposite of The Walking Dead – but come on, how can you not love the quirky humor of Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her friends? We love the simple-yet-novel concept of putting a female main character on a sitcom surrounded by male friends where the girl doesn’t feel compelled to fall in love with any of them – crazy, right?

Extra points to New Girl for the awesome post-Super Bowl episode. Everything is better with Prince. Seriously.

4. Suits. Mike, a genius soon-to-be Harvard Law student is kicked out of school for selling the answers to an exam, and yet winds his way into being hired at a prestigious New York law firm. Can Mike and his direct superior Harvey maintain Mike’s secret – that not only is he not a lawyer, but he never even attended Harvard?

If you haven’t gotten into Suits, now’s a great time to get started. Do yourself a favor and start from the beginning – the show is easy to catch up on, and you’ll get to the current 3rd season in no time. (We love Rick Hoffman as Harvey’s rival Louis Marlowe Litt.)

5. The Good Wife. What started as the story of a politician’s wife dealing with her husband’s sex and corruption scandal has matured into a darn good legal drama with Julianna Margulies at the center of it all. After her character’s (Alicia’s) husband is sent to jail, Alicia is forced to provide for her two children by returning to practicing law.

From there, the series becomes a  twisting, turning affair of legal intrigue and lawyer-ly backstabbing of the highest order, and the work of Josh Charles as Will Gardner on the show is absolutely spectacular. Add in big names like Christine Baranski and Alan Cumming, and The Good Wife is one of our five favorite shows on TV right now.

Today’s Stratta, the Tile Boutique inspiration comes courtesy of two artists: the genius of John Lennon and the mosaic mastery of Ed Chapman. Together, the two artists create one masterpiece: a hand-cut John Lennon mosaic by Ed Chapman that has our staff at Stratta, the Tile Boutique raving.

Chapman uses hundreds of pieces of hand-cut tile to create his mosaic portraits. His subjects are a veritable “who’s who” of pop culture, ranging from Lennon to Madonna, Margaret Thatcher to Chairman Mao, Bob Dylan to Andy Warhol (another of our favorite artists at Stratta).

We’re stunned by this personal and emotional portraiture of John Lennon, and applaud Ed Chapman for his artistry and use of high-end tile to create this complex piece. Amazing work, Ed!
